Introducing…

February 24, 2011

I am pleased to introduce the latest sweet little knit!  Say hello to Puppy!

Puppy is so so sweet and super soft.  I made him out of Sublime’s Luxurious Woolly Merino, which was such a joy to work with.  When you touch him, you’ll say, “THIS is wool??”  Seriously.  So soft.

There is one very sad little boy in my house since Puppy left.  Charlie fell completely in love with this little guy.  He tried so hard to convince me to let Puppy stay here!  Perhaps I’ll need to make another one when Charlie’s birthday comes around.

The other pieces I’ve been working on are new lovies!  First is the lovely purple lovie.  Haha, lovely lovie!  (Can you tell I’m easily amused?)  It’s made from a cashmere blend that is AMAZING.  If I could, I’d make myself an entire wardrobe out of this yarn.  So. Good.

And here’s the second lovie, made from the same wonderful yarn.  Delicious!!

FYI, the Puppy pattern is courtesy of Rebecca Danger, and the lovie patterns are my own.

{this moment} – A Friday ritual. A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

This week: a portrait of each of my sweet boys.

Charlie, two months before his third birthday.

Ethan, one month before his fifth birthday.

My sweet little Charlie boy.

March and April have been very busy here in our house!

My sweet baby Ethan turned 4.  I can hardly believe how grown up he is!  (Check out those dimples!!)  Some noteworthy things about Ethan: he loves to build with blocks, and is very creative with his inventions; he hates wearing pants; he knows all the words to about 10 different hymns and sings them with me at bedtime; and his favorite movies are Ponyo and My Neighbor Totoro.  He is a very intense boy, to say the least.  He feels so very deeply and has such a wide range of emotions.  He’s my sensitive little one, but such a strong leader.  I am so excited to see the man he turns out to be!

Charlie will be 2 already next week.  He’s our little charmer!  His favorite things right now include copying everything Ethan does, trains, trucks, yelling HI! out the window at everyone who walks by, playing outside, and dancing.  He’s always happy to oblige when I say, “Charlie, do a little dance,” putting his elbows out and moving his shoulders all around.  He’s our little snuggle bug, always wanting a quick hug or kiss and saying, “Love you mom-mom” or “Love you Da-eeee.”

Could we be any more blessed?

Birthday Quilt

February 24, 2010

I have the best best best boys in the whole world, I’m convinced.  They are sweet, caring, creative, funny, and just plain wonderful.

Ethan, my oldest, is turning 4 in a few weeks.  I asked him what he wanted for his birthday, and this is what he said.  “Mama, all I want for my birthday is for you to make me a quilt.  That’s all I want.  Nothing else.”  My heart melted!!  No toys or books or movies.  Just a mama-made quilt.  So we went to work together to pick out a pattern and some fabric that would be just what he had in mind.  Here’s what we came up with!

The pattern I’ll be making is the pinwheel one at the bottom.  Ethan has a special place in his heart for “spinners.”  I found it at http://www.etsy.com/shop/thimbleblossoms.  I think I could have purchased every pattern in that shop!

And here’s the fabric we chose.  The red & yellow flowers will be the quilt back, the solid yellow will be the background for the pinwheels, and the Happy Campers charm pack will make up the pinwheels themselves.  I can’t wait to see how it turns out!
